The concept of Newton Recording in many ways began with a drum set. From a young age, John expressed his love for music, spending all his time behind a kit. Whether for public concert and jazz style ensembles, or private rock bands, you couldn’t pay Newton enough to drag him away from his instrument.
This trend carried strong through secondary school, following John to Selkirk College in Nelson, British Columbia. There he furthered his studies, drawing from his passion for music to quickly attain a diploma in Contemporary Music and Technology with a Major in Engineering. It is no doubt this same love for music that allowed him to graduate as top engineering student of his class, receiving the CARAS scholarship upon graduation. John is easily remembered to be the 1st Call Engineer in his class.
Since graduating, Newton has been blessed to work with many great musicians including Raquel Warchol, Hot Hot Heat, The Tea Party, Andrew Allen, Les Copeland, and New Clear Sound. Whether recording in the Groove Studio, at live shows using his knowledge of live sound, or just offering musical accompaniment, John proves to his clients that he is reliable, efficient, and talented. His inherent strive for progress brought him together with Jon Buller to design and oversee the construction of the Groove Studio in Vernon B.C. Whether touring across Canada as a drummer for Andrew Allen, working in live sound for major headliners, engineering Les Copeland’s #1 hit album “Don’t Let the Devil In," or Prducting Jodi Pedersons' first top 40 single "Christmas with You,"John is hitting the B.C. music scene hard!
