Paperboy

Extra Extra: Paperboy! Before the sun comes up, these three musicians hailing from Vernon, BC, have a job to do, and they're gonna see it through. Don't let their modest looks and matching outfits decieve you. No! These boys are out for your hearts and potential souls, whether it be the classy motown beat pounding from Cameron Lutz's drum kit, the funky rhythm of Braeden Otter's Bass-fiddle or the doo-wop inspired vocal and guitar phrases of Luke Mortenson, these boys mean business. Like a southern baptist minister, Paperboy, with their catchy-as-sin melodies and engaging stage presence, are sure to whip you into a dance-inspired frenzy.

Their debut album “First Week on the Job” was recorded in a blistering two days of pure, unadulterated productivity. Not to toot any one horn, but the album with its shimmering diversity and genre-defying hooks, captures the raw energy found on vinyl from decades ago. The album is a proper and accurate reflection of the boys' live show, and won't leave you with the “they were better live" sensation.

While Paperboy as a whole moves as a fluid and cohesive sound, the boys could not be more different in their musical upbringings. Cam's technique and precision is a throwback to the greats such as Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa, with excellence and originality at the forefront of each "thwack!". Braeden, whilst being self-taught, brings a maturity and taste to each song that feels both organic and exciting at the very same moment, with enough intensity to wake the dead. Luke, while being a jazz school dropout, is always on his toes. His ability to size up a crowd and direct their energy is a fresh change from the flat and static frontman.

If given the chance to see this dynamic trio don't hesitate to say “heck yes!” for the occasion will no doubt be a memorable one. Their catalogue will no doubt have you, your teenager, grandparent, spouse, perhaps mistress, and assorted animal life front row for a show that is not any time soon to be forgotten.
